Everything You Need to Know About Vitamins

Since you’re trying to decide when is the best time to take vitamins, you are probably pretty new to the vitamin world in general and could benefit for an overview on vitamins more generally. Vitamins are more than just a pill or gummy that you take every day – they are super important for your body.

Vitamins are organic compounds that are needed to sustain life. Every different life form needs vitamins but uses them differently and in different amounts. Obviously we will be talking about the human body in this article. Technically speaking, all of the vitamins and minerals that humans need can be obtained through our diets and eating specific foods that are rich in these vitamins. In practice, however, it can actually be quite challenging for some people to obtain the levels of vitamins that they need from diet alone – that’s where supplements come in.

Vitamin supplements help give you that extra amount of vitamins that you are missing from your diet or life more generally. For example, people who are lactose intolerant might not be able to get enough calcium as easily as other people because calcium is often found in milk and cheese. Another example is people who live up north might not be able to get enough Vitamin D from the sun during the winter because the days are shorter and cloudier in the winter up north.

Individual Vitamins vs. Multivitamins

When it comes to types of vitamin supplements, there are two main types: individual vitamins and multivitamins. If you find you are only lacking in one vitamin, like Vitamin D during the winter, for example, then you might want to only take a Vitamin D supplement. However, if you are lacking in several different vitamins there’s no need to take a bunch of individual vitamin supplements for things like Vitamin B6, calcium, iron, etc. because all of these things can actually be incorporated into one vitamin called a multivitamin. There are so many different varieties and makeups of multivitamins that you are bound to find one that works for you.

When to Take Your Vitamins?

Now that you have found the right vitamins for you, you are probably wondering when is the best time to take vitamins so that you can get started working it into your daily routine. However, there isn’t one correct answer to this question. It largely depends on what types of vitamins you are taking. If you are taking multiple different vitamins separately, you might want to space them out and do research to see if any of them affect each other before you take them together. If you are taking a multivitamin, it’s best to take it on a relatively empty stomach but it doesn’t really matter whether you take it at night, in the morning, or in the afternoon. The best thing to do is to find where it fits into your routine the best so that you can make this adjustment easier on yourself.
