4 Things You Need to Know About Night Cream

The world of night cream can be really confusing and intimidating since there are so many different types of products out there that make all these different promises about their benefits. But it doesn’t have to be that hard and we are here to help! So here are four things you need to know about night cream:

It’s Different from Regular Moisturizers

While you might think that a night cream is just the same thing as a regular day moisturizer just marketed differently, that isn’t true! Night creams are formulated very differently than day creams because your skin behaves differently at night and needs different things. For example, night creams usually don’t include SPF because you won’t be needing protection from the sun at night! However, there are other reasons why night cream is formulated differently and it has to do with our circadian rhythm

Our circadian rhythms are based off of the 24-hour daily cycle that we all go through every day. It’s basically your body’s internal clock that tells you when to go to sleep and when to wake up responding to light patterns as well as your own habits. Our skin repairs itself at night and is also more permeable so it needs different ingredients than day cream so that it can continue working all night long and leave you waking up with healed and refreshed skin.

It’s Not Just for Anti-Aging

There’s a huge misconception that night cream is only for older people who are worried about avoiding or treating wrinkles and fine lines from age, but night cream is actually appropriate for people of all ages! No matter how old you are, your skin still goes through the same process every night and needs extra moisturization and nourishment during that time. Of course, there are many night creams that are formulated specifically for anti-aging purposes, but overall there are a wide variety of different purposes for night cream that you can choose based on your skin goals and skin type.

Formulas Vary by Skin Type

As mentioned above, another thing that you need to know about night cream is that there are different varieties depending on your skin type. If you don’t know your skin type, there are several things that you can look at to figure it out before you go searching for a night cream. First of all, think about your skin’s problems. Do you have oily skin or dry skin? Do you have pimples or flaky skin? Do you have enlarged pores or invisible pores? Do you deal with skin redness and itchiness? All of those are questions that you need to ask yourself to figure out your skin type.

If you have oily skin, your skin will be oily everywhere and you will likely have other complexion issues like blackheads, pimples, and other blemishes. If you have dry skin, you will have dryness throughout most of your face and have brittle, flaky skin. If you have combination skin, you might be oily in one area but dry in another. If you have sensitive skin, you might experience redness, itchiness, or burning in certain hotspots. If you have none of these issues, you have normal skin.

Once you know your skin type, you will be able to find a night cream that works best for you.

There are also some night creams that are formulated to work with all skin types as well.

It Doesn’t Have to Be Expensive

The last thing you need to know about night cream is that it definitely doesn’t have to be expensive in order for it to work! While you might think that higher prices mean higher quality and effectiveness, that’s definitely not the case. In fact, there are so many great night creams out there that are less than $100 and can last you months! So before you pull the trigger on a cream just because it’s expensive, make sure to do the research first to see if it’s really as good as it seems.
