Since the 19th century, the United States has become home to bully breeds. The growth of the bully breed worldwide is coupled with the increasing popularity of bully’s inside the states. Since the registration of the Boston Terrier in 1898, the U.S. has seen the bully breed grow to around 20% of the entire U.S. dog population. In addition to the 18 million bully dogs in the U.S., the French Bulldog has become the #1 most popular breed in America.
But what exactly are these ‘bully breeds’? Bully dogs are a categorical term that refers to over 50 breeds of terrier-type dogs, such as Bull Terriers or Bullmastiffs. This includes mixed breed bully dogs as well, which are referred to as ‘Pit Bulls’.
Although these bully dogs come from across the globe, the interest in America is unwavering. The American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bully, and Bulldog are all the most searched bully breeds across the 50 states. Ultimately, despite their origin or how old the breed may be, the Americans’ interest in the bully breed shows no signs of slowing down. As Americans continue to fall in love with their bully dog companions, bully’s will maintain their title as ‘America’s Dogs’.
